Walks in South Devon

Pull on your boots and discover some of the best walks in South Devon. At Churchwood Valley, we’re lucky enough to be surrounded by 75 acres of incredible coast, woodland and pasture, bordering National Trust land, farmland and the pretty village of Wembury.

South Devon is a walker’s paradise, and you can discover a range of wonderful walks from your cabin. Venture a little further afield to the South West Coast Path for breathtaking scenery and to Dartmoor National Park, where you’ll find dramatic open moorland and deep river valleys.

From magical forest walks and invigorating beachside strolls to wild moorland rambles, Devon has it all.

The South West Coast Path

Stretching for 630 miles from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall and onto the shores of Poole Harbour in Dorset, the South West Coast Path is one of the greatest walking trails in the world.

Walk the path towards Mountbatten and take the Water Taxi to Plymouth’s famous Barbican. Walk the other way, and you’ll come to the River Yealm, a stunningly beautiful estuary with trees growing down to the water’s edge. There, a ferry can take you either to Newton Ferrers, with its shops and the Dolphin Inn, or to Noss Mayo with two fine pubs, the Ship and the Swan, for much-needed refreshments.

From waymarked circular rambles and whole day strolls to bespoke walks, discover the area’s uniquely wild beauty and get ready for the hike of a lifetime.

Walking with Dogs

Holidaying with your dog offers the perfect opportunity to get out and about and explore Devon on foot. We have several designated on-site dog walking paths at Churchwood Valley, and we’re within easy walking distance of Wembury Beach (dogs allowed between 1st October and 30th April), the South West Coast Path and beyond.

The stretch of coast along from Wembury Beach permits dogs all year-round and is only a 10-minute walk from our free car park at the beach or 20 minutes from the site.  For more information on waggingly good walks, please visit our Dog Friendly page.
